Causes
Political instability, anti-U.S. resentment, and sugar. The economy rose and fell on sugar. Most of the sugar plantations were in the hands of foreign investors or wealthy upper class Cubans. Since the Spanish-American war and Cuban independence there was a great deal of resentment towards the US government because of their control over the Cuban economy. Since Cuba became independent, it had no stable political experience.
